Presented on: September 13, 2012
Join Anne as she goes beyond the "usual suspects" when evaluating imaging studies in patients with brain trauma.
As she explains,
In this mini-seminar we’ll talk about several points, beginning with the so-called “scout view.” Don’t ignore it! After the scout view, it starts with the scalp…not just an unimportant covering for the skull and brain. Why do scalp hematomas matter? Why do they look the way they do? We’ll then talk about epidural hematomas…they aren’t all the same!
What’s new with subdural hematomas? It’s all about the secondary phenomena, such as excitotoxic brain injury. We’ll talk about “second impact syndrome” and its relationship to excitotoxic brain injury.
Did you know that there’s something beyond diffuse axonal injury, called “diffuse vascular injury?” The neuropathologists recognize it….so should we!
Lastly, repeated head trauma is gaining increased recognition as a serious problem in contact sports. We’ll close the webinar with a brief discussion of chronic traumatic encephalopathy.

Presented on: October 11, 2012
Join Anne as she discusses the 10 new tumor entities and 3 new variants codified by the most recent (2007) WHO Classification of Tumors of the Central Nervous System.
As Anne explains,
Nearly 5 years later, what can we really say about the 10 new tumor entities and 3 new variants? Are there imaging clues that an experienced neuroradiologist could know that might allow preoperative diagnosis of one of these? The answer is both “yes” and “no.” It depends on the tumor. You’ll learn what we neuroradiologists can and can’t tell you.

Presented on: November 13, 2012
Join Anne as she discusses a combined clinical-imaging approach to headache, with a focus on what imaging can (and can’t) tell you.
As Anne explains,
Some headaches are (no pun intended) a “no-brainer.” You know these: Stuff like aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. But not all nontraumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage is the same. We’ll talk about the crucial differences in their subtypes and etiology. We’ll talk about the “other side” of the cerebral circulation, the dural venous sinuses and cortical/deep veins, and some of their headache-inducing pathologies. We’ll talk about “don’t miss this!” pathologies such as critical intracranial hypotension and what can happen when it’s mistaken for Chiari 1 malformation. We’ll conclude with how your friendly neighborhood neuroradiologist can and should be your partner in approaching headache patients.
