Presented in the renowned, fast-access format of other Washington Manual® titles, this excellent book is a practical guide to the clinical practice of surgical pathology. This valuable resource covers all aspects of surgical pathology for every organ and anatomic site, including gross examination and dissection; microscopic diagnosis of medical as well as surgical diseases; tumor classification; and tumor staging. Separate chapters are devoted to ancillary surgical pathology techniques, including immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence microscopy, electron microscopy, frozen section diagnosis, flow cytometry, DNA and RNA based molecular methods, and imaging technologies.

A companion Website offers the fully searchable text plus an image bank of more than 1800 figures.

    Doody's Core Title Review:
    Rating:
Reviewer: Semir Vranic, MD(Creighton University School of Medicine)
Even though presented in a small format, this book covers almost all the essential aspects of surgical pathology. The chapters contain the most recent data not only about surgical pathology per se, but also many newer techniques and methods as well (e.g. molecular diagnostics, immunophenotypization of the tumors). Many pathologists will appreciate numerous practice-tested diagnostic pearls, which may be of practical importance for routine surgical pathology work. Where appropriate, a special section is added on the cytologic features of the entities (including specimen procurement, diagnostics, and special studies). The companion Web site is easy to use, offering a huge collection of full-color pictures and schemes with the appropriate links to the manual in addition to the full text. The pictures range from very good to excellent, are easy to reproduce, and are accompanied by detailed descriptions. In most cases, the references are up to date and properly cited, particularly in the areas where contradictions prevail. I highly recommend this excellent and practical book. It is a well organized, comprehensive, easy to use handbook that can be carried around easily. The Web site is an ideal complement to the text, expanding it usefulness. Many practicing pathologists and pathology residents will find it useful and a real bargain. This is destined to be one of the essential pathology books and quite popular for generations to come.
