This course set focuses on endocrine, renal, and gastrointestinal topics nurses experience in their practice. It consists of five courses, three case studies/simulations and two tutorials, with each program accompanied by a test. Each course provides essential information student nurses need to know. The case study simulations place the student nurse in real life situations encountered by practicing nurses when patients are in critical care circumstances. The simulation takes place in an appropriate location such as a clinic or hospital and guides the student through the patient assessment, requires the student to identify appropriate nursing diagnoses and nursing interventions, interpret results of prescribed treatment, communicate effectively with patients and families and identify patient characteristics to optimize patient outcomes, discharge planning, and patient/family education. The tutorials provide an excellent review of the information both students and practicing nurses need to know to practice safely and effectively when caring for a patient diagnosed with the topic disorder. Each tutorial course describes the disorder classifications, pathophysiology, precipitating factors, clinical manifestations, complications, diagnostic criteria, medical treatment options, and nursing care requirements including patient assessment, monitoring, and nursing interventions.
