Diane M. Billings, RN, EdD, FAAN,
began her nursing career
upon graduation from Duke University with a BSN in 1964.
Since then, she has acquired a M.S.Ed. from
Butler University in Education and an Ed.D. from
Indiana University in Instructional Design in 1986.
Dr. Billings has enjoyed a rewarding career educating future
nurses in ASN, MSN and PhD programs and she currently holds
the positions of Professor of Nursing and Associate Dean for
Teaching, Learning, and Information Resources at
Indiana University. Her responsibilities as Dean include directing
the Center for Teaching and Lifelong Learning, the Continuing
Nursing Education program, the Learning Resource Center,
the Distance Learning Programs, and Faculty and
Staff Information Resources.
Dr. Billing's strongest area of teaching is educating nursing
students on how to pass the NCLEX-RN through conducting
review courses and NCLEX-RN preparatory courses.
She has pioneered this area of nursing education with the
use of information technology and developed the first
computer program for an NCLEX-RN review book.
In addition, she has also worked on
four books, including
Lippincott's Review for NCLEX-RN, currently in its
Seventh Edition with Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.
Her published research includes, "Computerized NCLEX-RN
preparation programs: A comparative review" in Computers
in Nursing, 13; and "Using the Computer: NCLEX-RN
review software to identify and assist students at risk for
failing the computerized NCLEX-RN" in Nurse Educator, 21.
Dr. Billings has also written numerous articles and performed
research for publication on technology in nursing education.
As an International nursing consultant,
Dr. Billings has
been recognized worldwide. She has served as a consultant
to the Institute of Specialized Nursing Studies in Aman, Jordan;
worked at the Kuwait University School of Nursing as a
Visiting Professor; conducted workshops for the nursing faculty
at Chulalongkorn Unversity in Bangkok, Thailand; and
collaborated with the Pantai Institute of Health Sciences and
Nursing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to offer a Web-based
Teacher Education Certificate Program.
When Dr. Billings isn't busy with work or writing,
she spends time on eco-adventure travels.
