Contemporary Ophthalmology is a new biweekly informational newsletter targeted toward general and subspecialty ophthalmologists, both in clinical practice and in various stages of training, that provides educational instruction in a spectrum of clinically relevant topics of broad and common interest.
This newsletter is unique in focusing on a specific subject with each issue and providing a distillation of the essential components required to recognize, definitively diagnose, and comprehensively manage the condition. Clinicians will benefit from the opportunity to receive the latest information from recognized experts on a single topic in a concise fashion and simultaneously undergo self-testing for reinforcement of learning and receipt of continuing medical education credit.
Given the increasing clinical demands reducing available time
to attend ophthalmology educational meetings, Contemporary Ophthalmology
will provide a home/office-based alternative. The American Board
of Ophthalmology requires a recertification process every 10 years
including a minimum of 300 CME credits successfully completed by
the practicing ophthalmologist. This biweekly publication provides
an opportunity to access the necessary information, receive immediate
self-testing feedback as well as CME credits in a condensed format.
Specific learning objectives for each clinical topic include provision of information to allow for a complete understanding of the epidemiology, historical associations, risk factors, most common symptoms, salient clinical features, diagnostic testing options including sensitivity and specificity, available medical and surgical therapies and most recent advances, potential adverse effects, possible complications, likely clinical course, and short- and long-term prognosis. The learning objectives will cover basic information of importance to all general ophthalmologists as well as including the latest specific advances in knowledge for the ophthalmology subspecialist.
Faculty and author affiliations and financial disclosure information are procured and printed prior to each CME article in each issue.
Other LCMEI/WKH/Other staff financial disclosure information is procured and printed prior to each CME article in each issue.
