The Psychopharm
Review newsletter is in its
42nd volume year and is the oldest newsletter in the field of pharmacology.
Editor-in-Chief Philip G. Janicak, MD, guides the direction of the newsletter.
This eight-page newsletter is published monthly. The focus of the
newsletter is drug therapy for psychiatric patients-psychotropic
treatments for psychiatric disorders.
There has been an explosion in the use of psychotropic
agents. Pharmaceutical companies continue to research and fuel their
pipelines for newer, more efficient psychodynamic mechanisms. Patients
routinely request antidepressant agents. Psychiatric drugs have
improved in recent years and there are many more patient treatment
options available for physicians.
The challenge for psychiatrists (and other physicians
who prescribe psychotropic drugs) is to stay abreast of drug interactions,
side effects, treatment strategies and combinations of drugs and
other substances. They need practical, straightforward reviews of
these agents. The nature of the material included in Psychopharm
Review can best assist physicians in psychiatry by complementing
and reinforcing traditional tools such as book and journal reading,
lectures presented at professional meetings, and direct interaction
with colleagues.
The Psychopharm
Review newsletter will present
an interactive approach for participants. The CME article will be
followed by a series of five quiz questions-written by the article
author-to best reflect the salient points in the Psychopharm
Review CME activity. The learning objectives and quiz questions
will reinforce the material covered in the CME activity. Participants
will be able to study and learn at their own pace. Participants
will be encouraged to save their issues in a binder for future reference.
