An agenda is submitted, outlining the following: title of the supplement, the
topics and authors by topic, the authors' full names and affiliations, guest
editor information, and background on where the material for the supplement
is coming from. If the material is based on a symposium or meeting, information
on when the meeting was/is being held would need to be supplied.

The Managing Editor/Supplements (ME/Supp) would contact the appropriate Editor or
Supplements Editor for a decision regarding tentative acceptance of the project,
pending his receipt and review of the final manuscript. Once we hear back from
the editor, we would provide this feedback to the contact/client.
After the agenda is tentatively accepted, the authors would need to start preparing
their manuscript, based on the submission guidelines of the journal, found in the
"Instructions to Authors." After the articles are all put together, and prior to
submission, the Guest Editor of the supplement would need to review all manuscript
and any changes that he/she requires would need to be completed prior to submission.
This would result in the manuscripts being considered in "final" form.
Once the above process is followed and completed, the manuscripts would be submitted
to the attention of the ME/Supp. We would require three hard copies, as well as disk,
plus any original artwork.
The supplement would then be forwarded to the Editor or Supplement Editor for review.
If desired, the editor might send the entire supplement or a portion of the
supplement (i.e., one or two articles) to an ad hoc reviewer for review and feedback.
The editor will inform the ME/Supp if the supplement is formally approved or rejected.
The review process typically takes about 4 weeks.

Once the final submitted manuscripts have been reviewed and approved, the contact is
informed, and the manuscripts are either sent directly by the Editorial office, or by
Healthcare, to our normal in-house journal production editing team for copyediting
purposes and formatting.

Generally, once the supplement has been approved, assuming no major changes are
required, the supplement could potentially publish within 3-4 months time. Again,
this assumes that there are no problems with the manuscripts and no hold-ups on the
client's part (i.e., med/legal).

Healthcare works with the jpe in obtaining author corrections and/or med/com
corrections as necessary. Any problems that might occur during the production process
are sent to Healthcare for follow-up and resolution. Overcopy and shipping
information is secured by Healthcare, and submitted according to schedule.
