PDA Product Demonstration Manual

Need a hand showing customers how to use PDA products? Use this manual to assist you in demonstrating The Washington Manual of Therapeutics and The 5-Minute Clinical Consult PDA software. The manual contains simple to follow instructions and suggested commentary.

Equipment Required

Palm OS or Windows CE PDA loaded with The Washington Manual of Therapeutics and The 5-Minute Clinical Consult PDA software.

Instructions   Suggested Commentary

Turn on device.   I am about to show you a set of PDA solutions from Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins that significantly enhance the productivity of today's medical professionals.

Tap the 5MCC icon with stylus.   Let's say that the physician suspects that the patient has a pulmonary embolism and wants to refer to the information regarding this clinical topic.

Select the Main Index and begin to script "pulmon" using graffiti or the keyboard on the Compaq, Palm or Emulator. (Topics beginning with Pulmonary will show up on the screen.)   See how with a few keystrokes within seconds you get to the topic of interest.

Select Pulmonary embolism.   See the smARTbuttons (tabs to the right). Here you have the categories Basics, Diagnosis, Treatment, Medication, Follow up, and Miscellaneous.

Tap triangle next to the word BASICS on Palm or above smART buttons on Compaq.   By tapping this triangle you can see the list of categories defined by the smART buttons.

Tap Treatment button.   If you tap T, you will see information on the treatment options for pulmonary embolism. You may now want to refer to another reference for this patient.

Tap link icon and click on The Washington Manual of Therapeutics (On Palm or Emulator this icon is the left most icon at the top. On Compaq it is the icon immediately left of the hand).   Automatically you are linked to the section in the Washington Manual with information on this topic. If you were to do this with traditional books, you would spend several minutes looking up this information.

Scroll through each of the section buttons by selecting each button (S1, S2, etc.).   You are able to quickly scroll through the sections in this chapter. All of this is done in a matter of a few minutes in front of the patients while you are talking to them.

As you have seen, these programs quickly give you the information you need to provide quality care for your patients, always making relevant information available at your fingertips.

This is a resource you can use with almost every patient encounter and one which is being enthusiastically used by thousands of medical practitioners.
