Here you will find resources that will help you understand LWW's development and publishing of electronic products, including CD-ROMs, web-based products, and handheld programs. You will also find guidelines for preparing an original proposal for an electronic product as well as helpful hints to guide you in formatting new and existing manuscript for a product in new media.
LWW's electronic products are primarily delivered as ancillaries, add-ons, and stand-alone. Ancillary products are developed to add value to existing family of products and are sold only with the product they represent. Electronic ancillaries are generally web sites and handheld programs. Electronic product add-ons are typically CD-ROMs and are often sold both stand-alone and packaged with other products in its family. LWW develops new CD-ROMs to be sold stand-alone and occasionally packaged with other products related to the specialty.
Most of LWW products in New Media are generated from existing products. If you have an idea for a CD-ROM or web product independent from the content of an existing LWW product, review the guidelines for submitting an electronic product proposal.
If you sign a contract with LWW to produce an electronic product, you will have a meeting with your acquisitions editor and project manager to determine how to best deliver content. If your manuscript is primarily text, then you will need to review content tagging. If your manuscript is primarily images (e.g. to include with an atlas), then you will need to follow the illustration guidelines.
Note that if you are developing an electronic project generated from an textbook in process, you will need to work with your acquisition editor and managing editor to prepare content for electronic development early on.
