Twelve individual CME activities are available through Pediatric Emergency Care each year.
The Lippincott CME Institute, Inc. designates this journal-based CME activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
An annual total of 12 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ is available through the 12 annual issues of Pediatric Emergency Care.
This CME activity is intended for pediatric emergency medicine specialists, emergency physicians, pediatricians, medical trainees, nurses and allied health professionals with an interest in the care of the acutely ill or injured child.
Each year, more than 30 million children in the United States require emergency care medical treatment. Based on the large number of pediatric patients seeking emergency care and the increasingly complex and specialized care required for these patients, pediatric emergency medicine was recognized as an official subspecialty in 1990 by the American Board of Medical Specialties and the first certifying examination was offered in 1992. Oversight of the specialty is provided by a conjoint board consisting of representatives from the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
Currently, pediatric emergency care is delivered predominantly by three types of physicians: pediatric emergency medicine specialists, emergency physicians and pediatricians. With the enormous amount of new research and clinical information becoming available on the emergency medical care of children, it is a challenge even for the most dedicated physicians to keep up with these new developments. In addition to dealing with this growth of information, these specialists also have to contend with an expansion of cumbersome administrative activities for managed health care plans and third-party payers.
Pediatric Emergency Care is in its 24th year of successfully providing essential information on the emergency care of children. The Co-Editors of Pediatric Emergency Care, Drs. Stephen Ludwig and Gary Fleisher, are world-renowned experts in pediatric emergency care. Drs. Ludwig and Fleisher have assembled a large group of over 40 nationally and internationally recognized experts to serve on the journal's Editorial Board. This Editorial Board will provide input to the Co-Editors on article topics that are of vital interest to the target audience. Periodic searches and review of the world's peer-reviewed medical literature will aid the Co-Editors and Editorial Board in selecting article topics that provide information needed by the target audience. In addition, The journal will conduct two types of surveys this year to better assess the target audience's needs: 1) a general readership survey, and 2) a survey of attendees at a nationally publicized CME course on pediatric emergency medicine, held each November. The survey results will be compiled and reviewed by the Co-Editors and Editorial Board in planning future CME activities within the journal.
The format and design of the CME-accredited activity within each issue of Pediatric Emergency Care will allow it to serve as a creditable and effective distance learning tool for pediatric emergency medicine specialists, emergency physicians, pediatricians, medical trainees, nurses and allied health professionals with an interest in the specialized diagnostic techniques and treatment strategies leading to optimum care of the pediatric emergency care patient.

The Lippincott CME Institute, Inc. is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The Pediatric Emergency Care CME Program enables current readers to earn up to twelve (12) AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. The review article published in every monthly issue throughout the year is designated course reading. Those who are interested in earning CME credit hours should read the article and then take the exam included in each monthly issue.
To become eligible for up to 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for each issue, readers will need to correctly answer 80 percent or higher of the five multiple choice or true/false questions on the CME examination presented in that issue. The CME examination will cover the review article contained within that issue.
To earn CME credit, mail a photocopy of the completed answer sheet to Lippincott CME Institute, Inc., Wolters Kluwer Health, Two Commerce Square, 2001 Market Street, 3rd Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19103; fax 215-827-5614. Only the first entry will be considered for credit and must be postmarked by the expiration date noted in each issue. There is no cost for CME credit or quiz processing. Answer sheets will be graded and certificates will be mailed to each participant within six to eight weeks of receipt by LCMEI, Inc.
Twelve evaluation assessment questions will be included as part of the CME Quiz. These questions ensure that we determine that each activity's learning objectives have been met, that the activity was of educational value to the target audience and was unbiased, and offer participants a method of feedback.
Each individual CME activity will expire within ten weeks of the activity’s release date.
