Ambler, PA (January 14, 2010) – With a program that balances emerging trends and challenges in healthcare today, the Nursing2010 Symposium: The Conference for Clinical Excellence, April 6-9, 2010, at the Las Vegas Hilton in Las Vegas, Nevada, will meet the needs of nurses in direct care positions as well as aspiring leaders. Education sessions taught by expert faculty will focus on such core nursing topics as heart failure, trauma, pain management, diabetes, assessment skills, lab values, healthy work environments, leadership skills, and more. In addition to education sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to earn contact hours, network with colleagues, attend special events and meet with vendors and industry representatives in the exhibit hall.

Six preconference workshops will be offered on Tuesday, April 6. The Medical-Surgical Exam Review Course is endorsed by the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses and will help nurses refresh their knowledge and prepare for the Certified Medical-Surgical Nurse Certification Exam offered at the close of the conference. Additional preconference workshops include Lead ECG: Clinical Skills Builder, The Ins and Outs of Infusion Therapy: Clinical Thinking Skills, Staff Development: Not a Job, An Adventure!, Assessment Blitz and Leadership Skills for the Successful Charge Nurse.
Later that day, the symposium will officially open with the Opening Address by Christine Kessler, RN, MN, CNS, ANP,BC-ADM, a nurse practitioner at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. In her interactive session, What Would Florence Do? Nursing Then, Now, and Beyond…, Kessler will explore nursing’s beginnings, growth and the future through the wisdom of Florence Nightingale.
On Wednesday, April 7, Eric Wahl, of the Wahl Group, Inc., San Diego, CA, will present the Keynote Address: The Art of Wisdom. Wahl believes hospitals that embrace innovative strategies will be equipped to succeed in the future. He will discuss ways to make healthcare organizations more creative and ultimately, more productive.
Breakout sessions will follow on Wednesday and Thursday. Topics include:

Thursday will also feature two general sessions. Laskowski-Jones will share essential leadership traits and strategies we can learn from wolf pack behaviors in her session, Leadership Lessons Learned From Wolves. Later that day, Michael Loughran, executive vice president, Nurses Service Organization (NSO), Hatboro, PA, and Bruce Dmytrow, vice president, CNA Insurance Companies, Chicago, IL, will present Legal Exclusive: How to Avoid Daily Practice Risks. ”
Attendees will hear two general sessions on Friday, April 9: Shampoos, Tattoos, and Barbeques: Infectious Diseases Update, presented by Barb Bancroft, RN, PNP, MSN, executive director and president, CPP Associates, Inc., Chicago, IL; and Transforming Care, Transforming Lives: Leading Change from the Bedside, presented by Jeffrey N. Doucette, MS, RN, CEN, FACHE, NEA-BC, vice president, Emergency Services, Bon Secours Health System, Hampton Roads, VA.
Diann B. Uustal, RN, MS, EdD, will wrap up the symposium on Friday with the Closing Session, Balanced Living in a World on Fast Forward! Uustal, clinical ethicist and president, Educational Resources in HealthCare, Inc., Soddy Daisy, TN, will describe wellness strategies nurses can use as a springboard for change and recharging.
