Hi all! I’m delighted to participate in the LWW blog for July!
I am the author of Medical Transcription Fundamentals, a comprehensive textbook written for medical transcription students. As a practicing MT, I envisioned a book for students that was written from the perspective of a practitioner in the field and written in a way that people could understand, in order to provide them with a better learning experience. The book is full of practical information, including helpful transcription tips and soundalike word tables that every MT can use. It also comes with a CD containing lots of activities, including “live” dictations and additional games, exercises, and resources to help make learning both informative and fun. I am also the author of two other textbooks, Legal Office Document Processing and Legal Office Projects, which I wrote when I was active I the legal field in the past.
Currently I work as the Director of Online Education for Transcription Relief Services (TRS), a large medical transcription service organization serving the needs of health information clients here and abroad. I’m actually a transplanted city girl, moving several years ago from the hustle and bustle of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to a rural area north of Nashville, Tennessee, “Music City USA.” We don’t get garbage pick up or pizza deliveries and most vehicles here are trucks, but the open land is beautiful and quiet. We live on 5 acres with 2 horses and a small coop of chickens and a dog. I like to garden and hope to master the art of true farming one day!
I’m already looking forward to writing the next edition of Medical Transcription Fundamentals already with even more tips and information that will make this book a handy resource manual for MT students long after they leave the classroom.
