Dear Prospective Reader of The 5-Minute Obstetrics and Gynecology Consult,

What do I want you to know about this book?

That it’s written as part of a time-tested and true 5-Minute Consult series?  Perhaps, if you’ve encountered those references previously and found them useful.

That its chapters are written by noted experts in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology?  Yes, as I’m asking you to find out how authoratative it is as a reference.

That the 5-Minute Consult chapters allow you to consult these experts, as you might do if you were able to catch them in the halls of your hospital for a “curb-side” consult regarding a difficult patient or a challenging topic?  Yes, because that’s the beauty of an edited book—it taps the expertise of many authors.

That its 2-page chapters have a bulleted/template style that consistently and easily telegraphs important aspects of each topic?  Yes, because this format appeals to the “busy clinician” aspects of our professional lives.

That the book contains separate sections on Gynecologic Symptoms, Gynecologic Conditions, Women’s Health, Common issues in obstetrics, Obstetrical Conditions, Pregnancy with underlying medical conditions, Procedures in Ob and Gynecology, and Emergencies? Yes, because these sections create “built-in” redundancy so that you can access a topic in a number of different ways—by sign or symptom, by condition, by procedure.

So if you are a resident physician (in obstetrics and gynecology; family medicine; internal medicine; pediatrics; or other); an advance practice nurse (midwife, nurse practitioner) who cares for women; a primary clinician in practice; or just busy enough to like the idea of a five minute consult from the experts—-take a look at the book.  I hope and believe that you’ll find it useful.

Best regards,
The tired editor (301 chapters and 15 appendices take a lot of time to organize, edit, review, and proof)
Paula Hillard
