Charlottesville, VA(December 9, 2010) — Stedman’s and Silverchair have partnered to create Stedman’s Online to electronically deliver Stedman’s respected, high-value medical terms and definitions to hospitals, health care professionals, and students. Stedman’s is part of Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading provider of information and business intelligence for students, professionals, and institutions in medicine, nursing, allied health, and pharmacy. Silverchair delivers superior information services to scientific, technical, and medical professionals through advanced technology and publishing solutions.
Stedman’s Online will provide health care professionals and students with quick search and content retrieval capabilities from its database of medical terms and definitions. It will also offer additional reference content such as videos and audio pronunciations, as well as customization features allowing users to add new terms, definitions, notes, and links to outside content.
“For over 100 years, Stedman’s has provided quality, comprehensive medical language to health care professionals and students,” says Julie Stegman, Publisher, Wolters Kluwer Health. “We are pleased to be able to continue this tradition of excellence by utilizing Silverchair’s innovative customer-focused platform to offer Stedman’s Online as the next-generation resource for this trusted information.”
Stedman’s Online features content from Stedman’s Medical Dictionary, Stedman’s Medical Dictionary for the Health Professions & Nursing, Stedman’s Medical Dictionary for the Dental Professions, Stedman’s Pocket Medical Dictionary, and Stedman’s Abbreviations, Acronyms, and Symbols. The terms and definitions will be supported by audio pronunciations. In addition, the application will deploy the power of the dictionary’s images, a robust collection of reference tables, and video clips from Acland’s Video Atlas of Human Anatomy.
“Stedman’s medical dictionaries are valued throughout the health care industry,” said Silverchair CEO Thane Kerner. “Silverchair is pleased to have the opportunity to develop a product that has such tremendous workflow integration potential in a large variety of settings.”
Stedman’s Online is being developed on Silverchair Content Manager (SCM), the cornerstone information delivery platform in Silverchair’s portfolio of software products. SCM’s semantic architecture and search engine will be deployed to deliver accurate, relevant search results, as well as links to related content to create a robust information service.
Beginning this winter, students, hospitals and healthcare professionals can purchase one or more of the Stedman’s Online dictionary databases by visiting StedmansOnline.com.
