New Collections of Grand Rounds and Case Report Focused Reviews
Philadelphia, Pa. (July 13, 2011) – Physicians seeking a rich source of clinical knowledge in cardiology and other areas of patient care will find it in the new topic Collections of The American Journal of the Medical Sciences (AJMS), official journal of the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation (SSCI). The journal is published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, a part of Wolters Kluwer Health.
Subscribers to The AJMS and members of the SSCI can access the special topic collections by clicking on the “Collections” tab on the journal website: http://www.amjmedsci.com. Highlighted by extensive Grand Rounds contributions from major southern hospitals and a special series of Case Report Focused Reviews, the collections provide a convenient and valuable resource for knowledge of key clinical topics.
A Wealth of Clinical Knowledge from Current and Past AJMS Contributors
The six collections currently hosted on the AJMS website offer a wealth of clinical information, drawing on the experience and wisdom of current and past AJMS editors and contributors. The collections include Cardiology Grand Rounds from The University of Texas Medical Branch and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, contributed by past editor Dr. George A. Stouffer.
These two cardiology collections provide unique insights into a wide range of common and unusual problems, as encountered and discussed by the experts at those institutions. Readers can learn alongside experienced and newer faculty at those renowned institutions as they talk through interesting cases producing valuable insights into clinical care.
Another highlight is a collection of Case Report Focused Reviews—an ongoing series by Dr. Fred A. Lopez of Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. The reviews update the traditional case report format by presenting individual patient cases as the platform for a detailed, focused review of a clinical topic. Readers of The AJMS have enjoyed the Case Report Focused Review series as an informative and intellectually stimulating way to learn about new issues and gain insights into more familiar ones.
Other collections currently available on The AJMS website include Case Records of the VA Maryland Healthcare System, contributed by Dr. Philip A. Mackowiak of University of Maryland Medicine; and papers from the annual Southwestern Internal Medicine Conferences, contributed by Dr. Biff F. Palmer of University Of Texas Southwestern Medical Center; and a series of trainee research reports.
Future collections will include Grand Rounds contributions from current Guest Editors Dr. Daniel J. Lenihan of Vanderbilt University and Dr. Stamatios Lerakis of Emory University—both protégés of Dr. Stouffer. Through their contributions to the AJMS, they carry on the SSCI’s tradition of sharing medical knowledge and mentoring the next generation of physicians.
“The editorial office is excited to see these new topical collections, and we look forward to having more of them being available as we continue to grow our Historical Perspectives and other venues,” comments Dr. David Ploth, the journal’s editor-in-chief.
